Hello! My name is Paul and I am a History HoD working in St Albans. Originally from Preston in Lancashire, I moved to the south in 2009 and have been a token southerner ever since. I have an MA in Medical History from the University of Exeter, which I rarely ever use...

In 2014, after a brief stint in publishing, (which it's best not to talk about...) I entered the world of education and have never looked back. I am now in my second school and my sixth year of teaching, which apparently enables me to feel confident enough to make this blog!

In March 2019, I was awarded a Churchill Fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. This enabled me to spend six weeks travelling to Singapore, Scandinavia and Switzerland to investigate ways to improve the retention of early-career teachers.

In 2019, I became one of the first Chartered Teachers in the country, having taken part in the pilot programme from the Chartered College of Teaching.
